For this, the imm cologne was able to win Luca Nichetto, Sebastian Herkner and Studio Truly Truly to create innovative interior design solutions for contemporary living in a unique get-together. Visitors will experience three sophisticated living visions, three very unique and personal perspectives and interpretations in three open-plan spaces. The creative teams bring very different levels of style to the project.

What do we need to live? The design by Todd Bracher, with which the US designer surprised the visitors of the imm cologne 2017 can be reduced down to this simple question. Especially since they still could recall last year’s “Das Haus” with its very different design that confused the senses – full of colours, scents, textile haptics, round in shape, transparent and open on all sides. Whereas Sebastian Herkner demonstrated sensual indulgence recently, Todd Bracher is limiting himself down to the essentials.

This edition of “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” stands in bold contrast with not only the compact installation from Neri&Hu at the last imm cologne, but in fact also with all living conventions. It is circular, more or less transparent and has almost no solid wall elements. Nonetheless, Sebastian Herkner’s house promises to be a sensual experience – a house that is soft and aromatic, colourful and communicative, and which is able to change its form like a chameleon.

imm cologne’s “Das Haus” has never possessed such imposing architectural force. Last year, the visitor was invited into the interior of Louise Campbell’s “Haus”, a country-house-like, Scandinavian-cosy space. This year, the installation by the Chinese architect couple Rossana Hu and Lyndon Neri affects the beholder more like a challenge to be overcome. And that’s exactly what “Das Haus” 2015 by Neri&Hu is meant to be – a challenge.

koelnmesse has nominated Danish designer Louise Campbell to create “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage 2014”. At the international interior design fair imm cologne in January 2014, she will be building a low-tech house as an open space for flexible use in which the furniture merely serves to symbolise basic functions. For the Dane, flexibility, comfort and scope for creativity are the most important requirements an ideal home should satisfy.

What possibilities do we have for enhancing the way we live? There are technological approaches, sustainability concepts, social and multicultural utopias and ideals. And, since 14th January 2013, there has been an experiment on the idea of green living too: the “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” installation at the current imm cologne, this year designed for the international furniture fair by Luca Nichetto. In his design, the Venetian focuses on solutions intended to enable occupants to live in direct co-existence with nature.

Who says modern everyday life and sensuousness have to be at odds with one another? The “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage” installation by Doshi Levien at the imm cologne 2012 aims to furnish evidence to the contrary and launches the new event concept at the fair. In an installation that is visionary not just at architectural level but in creative terms as well, the design experiment is developing into a fascinating study on modern ways of living.
