In the summertime, balconies, terraces and gardens transform into additional living areas, places where we can enjoy the first rays of sunshine in the morning and spend laid-back evenings with friends and family. To make sure that our outdoor spaces are welcoming, relaxing environments, the furniture needs to be both stylish and comfortable. No surprise, then, that the latest outdoor furniture trends are particularly cosy and inviting. Join us as we take a closer look at five new designs.

Nardi – Maximo 5

A garden sofa? Absolutely! Maximo 5 from Italian brand Nardi is a modular sofa system that takes a single armchair module as its starting point and can be arranged in countless configurations for use on balconies and terraces or in gardens. Maximo 5’s distinctive look is defined by clean lines and rounded edges, which give it a harmonious and inviting appeal. Whether it’s a spacious chill-out nook, a cosy two-seater sofa or an open seating area for get-togethers that you’re looking for, with Maximo 5 you can customise your outdoor space exactly as you wish.

Dedon – Atolo

Taking inspiration from archipelagos, Dedon has created the Atolo collection, a range of individual seating “islands” that can be arranged to create different moods depending on the positioning of the larger or smaller lounge modules. The new armchair, two-seater sofa and footstool capture the imagination thanks to their organic design language. The modules are available in two intricately crafted colourways, created by combining three harmonious shades of Dedon’s Touch fibre in the hand-woven structures.

Designer Claudio Bellini explains: “With this collection, I want to convey the feeling of peace and tranquillity and all the other positive emotions that arise when sunbathing on a tropical beach.” He has definitely achieved this with Atolo.

Gandía Blasco – Onsen club chair

Sober, with refined lines and no unnecessary embellishments: this is Onsen, the outdoor furniture collection designed by Francesco Meda and David Quincoces for Gandía Blasco. The two designers have paid particular attention to their choice of materials: taking naturalness as their guiding principle, they opted to work with steel, leather-effect straps and fabrics in an unpretentious, light-touch approach.

“The Onsen collection is very understated and integrates well into different architectural spaces,” say Meda and Quincoces, explaining the design of the furniture range. “We developed it with a view to evoking the sense of tranquillity that you find in Japanese architecture. We were inspired by rationality, by geometric and elementary forms that need little by way of ornamentation.” The results speak for themselves.

Ethimo – Swing

The collaboration between Ethimo and Patrick Norguet has given rise to Swing, a collection of lounge and dining room furniture with a dual structure: an outer layer made of metal and an inner layer composed of teak slats, with the combination creating a balanced mix of lines and materials.

One iconic must-have piece in the range is the large swing seat. Designed as a cosy nest that offers sanctuary to body and soul, it’s the ideal place to relax and unwind.
