We are living at a time in which people are taking to the streets to express their views. We are concerned about the way nature is being exploited, we stand up for the acknowledgement of human rights, and we demonstrate against senseless wars; or we protest against exorbitant rents and are fighting for the right to affordable housing. Do designers have any influence over these kinds of developments? Or do our perceptions of these social conditions affect the ideas creatives have? From sustainable product ideas and environmentally friendly production processes to clever and practical furnishing concepts: the participants of the panel discussion at imm cologne 2020 attempt to define the role of designers in shaping our future. The design journalist and trend researcher Frank A. Reinhardt (far.consulting) is joined by the designers Jeannette Altherr (Studio ADP), Matthias Oesterle (Phoenix Design) and Martin Hirth for a discussion on the homes and lifestyles of the future.
