RAL Colour Feeling sets out to be a source of inspiration with regard to colour in the fields of design and architecture. RAL has founded the Institute of Future Research Design (IFRD) in cooperation with the Hildesheim-based Institute of International Trendscouting (IIT) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim (HAWK).
The IIT’s approach centres on a comprehensive scouting process, the building blocks of which have grown in line with demand over more than a decade and have been continuously optimised. Because this scouting activity takes place in large trend panels twice a year – each based on around 20,000 images – the IIT has an extensive data set at its disposal as well as relevant experience in the evaluation of phenomena, trends and styles as regards colour and finishes. Its latest publication, entitled reBirth of Culture, contains the 15 on-trend colours for 2020 and more besides.
The world expressed in reBirth of Culture has a correspondingly sensorial, familiar emphasis. The greyish appearance of the soft, matt colour palettes is reminiscent of limewash, skin tones and stony shades. These are combined with intense, ornate pink tones, vibrant yellows as well as dark, earthy hues, brown and deep indigo.
