Beirutitude tackles the work of the duo Borgi | Bastormagi, both architects, urban planners and educators living and working in Beirut. The talk will focus on the challenge of design in a city shaped by its chaos. The designers will show some of their pieces and the narrative behind its conception. Is the product a projection of the city, the designer or the user? The works vary from commissioned projects for galleries to private residences and explorations. The presentation discusses the difference between having a client and creating one.
Nada and Etienne will also raise the question shared with many Lebanese designers since the revolution of October 17. How should we face the changing context? While some local designers are refraining from presenting any work as what is expected to be a transitional period in the history of the country, the role of local designers is raised. Is design a redundant luxury or a vital necessity?
