Even more international, even trendier: the new concept of LivingKitchen

When imm cologne takes place as the trade fair duo in combination with LivingKitchen in 2019, the central event of the international kitchen industry will hardly be recognisable: The team of LivingKitchen presented its new concept in January 2018, which aims to make the "trade fair within the trade fair" even more international, even trendier and even more digital.

The signs are set for change: At the beginning of imm cologne 2018 the team of LivingKitchen is presenting its plans for the coming year. Since 2011, LivingKitchen, which takes place every two years in the scope of imm cologne, has developed into the central event of the international kitchen industry. "LivingKitchen offers a perfect business and presentation platform for the industry. The trade fair doesn't just place the emphasis on a pure product show, it also particularly impresses through its many events. We have held many discussions with companies and industry insiders over the past months on the basis of which ideas have been developed that will make LivingKitchen even more attractive," commented Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse. "The foundation for the future-oriented concept has already been devised. Now we are starting on the detailed elaboration," the Chairman of the Executive Board continued.

In future LivingKitchen is to become even more tailor-made to meet the heterogeneous needs of the companies and visitors. Strengthening the event character and presenting hereby the kitchen in all its facets - these two aims form the focus of the new concept of LivingKitchen. To this end, in 2019 for the first time three special zones will be established based on the Piazzas at interzum: "We will visualise the themes "Design", "Technology" and "Foodstyle" here," said Matthias Pollman, Vice President of the Trade Fair Management of Koelnmesse. "Based on several kitchen presentations we will portray the entire diversity of the industry - and make the furniture, functions, technologies and networking of tomorrow experienceable," the Vice President added.

A new aspect here is the focus on individual part sections - which together highlight the entire theme complex the "kitchen". The kitchen is far more than just a room to cook in - it is the reflection of the society, which allows plenty to be learnt about the forms of living together and beyond this it is also a future laboratory for a wide range of developments: Whereas in the "Design" section the emphasis lies on aesthetic design concepts, in the "Future Technology" zone answers to the question how innovations can change the kitchen as living space will be provided. Smart Home, digitalisation, connectivity - are the keywords in this area. "Future Foodstyle" addresses the trends. Here it will become visible how individual life plans and social developments will shape the kitchen of tomorrow: Urbanisation for example is reducing the available space, which in turn determines the equipment in the kitchen. Solutions for self-production, urban gardening, indoor farming, sharing or outdoor kitchens will be presented - and thus an ever stronger focus will be placed on the demands of the future. The team of LivingKitchen wants to address the end consumer with a further new element: The "Foodmarket" will have a central location between the hall sections and lends LivingKitchen a totally new face. As a lifestyle trend, cooking and diet will be conveyed in a particularly appetising way here.

At the same time, the Foodmarket offers the end customers a high-quality shopping experience.

In addition to this content-related realignment, high priority is also being placed on the theme internationalisation. "From our discussions with companies we have learnt that the internationality of the visitors is a key issue," said Gerald Böse. "Here we are already on the right path, but could grow considerably faster." We have to make the already existing internationality - in 2017 every second trade visitor at imm cologne/LivingKitchen came from abroad - more tangible for the exhibitors," Böse continued.

So, one issue is to attract more visitors to the Rhine and the other is to increase awareness. "Interestingly enough, LivingKitchen is perceived very well abroad," added Matthias Pollmann. "In Germany our approach is in turn beginning to bear fruits: Over 90 companies have already registered as exhibitors for LivingKitchen 2019. This is a significant increase compared to the number of applications in 2017. In addition to already well-known exhibitors such as nobilia and Schüller, we are also delighted that companies like Blanco, Vestel, Sharp, Team 7, Grohe, Villeroy & Boch and hansarohe have already registered for LivingKitchen 2019.
